What is Kodomo?
Kodomo is the Japanese word for Child. The symbol for Kodomo is three mini spheres. The idea for this project was inspired from a passage in the book ‘The Little Prince’. “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essentially invisible to the eye” The Le Kodomo project comes to life in 2006 where the spring heart with a lot of carrion rising from the head of the small kodomo is the center of Martina’s drawings. And so this clumsy, round character, without eyes but with a huge heart, moves through nature, mesmerising, telling its unique story. With time, the style of the drawings continues to evolve. Today’s images are leaner, cleaner. Inspiration is drawn from nature with circles, lines and curves of ink and the fine intricate details of captured flowers. The project took a break between 2012 and 2017, focussing instead on a few large pieces and introducing loads of colors. In winter 2018 the transformation into “Le Kodomo” happened. It is a tribute to France, for it is a French influence project. The place of inspiration, culture and experimentation. Le Kodomo project is life told through drawings. It is the love for nature, the experience of travel, the commitment to love this planet and to share the discovery of different cultures.
